the twins

I'm sure the news has spread but I thought I would let everyone know just in case...Jesse Redden Kirk & Waylon Thomas Kirk were born on Monday the 12th at 2:32. However, they passed away about 40 min later. Toby and I got to be with them and hold them the whole time they were with us. They had my nose and Toby's chin. Waylon was 1lb 6 oz and Jesse was 1lb 1 oz and they were both 12 inches long. They had what is called twin to twin transfusion. That is where one twin takes blood from the other twin. It is very rare and occurs almost exclusively in identical twins. There are procedures they can do to correct it but we would have had to catch it at the right moment. I had a normal ultrasound about 3 weeks ago and the week after I gained 10 pounds. We believe that is when it started to happen and that is probably when we would have had to catch it in order to do something about it. I started having cramps and bleeding on Sat so we went to the hospital. They monitored me, ran tests but couldn't find anything wrong (I wasn't dilated at all). They sent me home on bed rest with instructions to call my dr Monday morning. We went to the dr Monday morning and I was 5cm dilated. They rushed me over to the hospital and did everything they could to stop the contractions but nothing worked. Even if it would have stopped them, they were too sick to survive. Toby and I have been doing the best that we can. We are just thankful that we still have each other. We have been blessed to have such wonderful friends and family helping us get through a time that we never thought we would have to face.
